INSIDE BROOKMAN'S PARK
Photos by Paul Leverington
Paul took these photos inside the transmitter hall during a visit in the early 1980s. No doubt it has changed a good deal since then...
Pictures 01 to 04 are of the now removed power house which had three 6-cylinder Marine Diesels.
Picture 05 is of No. 4 Transmitter hall; this was a 140kw transmitter which at the time was used for BBC R2 (909kHz) and was fed to the larger of the two verticals.
Pictures 6 to 12 are of the two small transmitters T1 and T2 of 25kw each and feed to a dipole between the two small masts on the south side of the site, the two masts on the north side are the reflector.
The mess on the floor was the new transmitter of 150kw (then for BBC R1) which at the time was in the process of being built.
Picture 13 is the main audio room; all Brookmans transmitters were fed by landlines from London Control Room to this room.
Pictures 14 to 17 are of the 500W G2LO the first transmitter for London, which has since been donated to the Science Museum.
